Supporting the Transformative Power of the World Choir Games
The World Choir Games, often regarded as the choral equivalent of the Olympics, is a spectacle that celebrates harmony, unity, and the transformative impact of music. Scheduled to take place in Auckland in July 2024, this prestigious event will host over 300 choirs and more than 20,000 participants from around the world. The Official Song ‘Te taukaea tangata – Breathing in, breathing out’, a melodic embodiment of Aotearoa New Zealand composed by distinguished New Zealand songwriter and NZ Music Hall of Fame inductee Don McGlashan and Hana Mereraiha, enriched with lyrics in both te reo Māori and English is a must view. Tickets are on sale now.
I am thrilled that Leanne, a client of Money Matters along with her award-winning colleague and husband, Dean Pooley, has already secured support from another client of ours. Leanne is seeking to raise more money for this project. While there is potential for financial return, the primary motivation for support is philanthropic, offering a chance for significant cultural enrichment and social impact. The series aims to reach a broad audience, both domestically and internationally, drawing from New Zealand’s rich cultural landscape and the global appeal of the Choir Games.
The Vision Behind the Series
Leanne’s vision for the series extends beyond the musical scores and performances of the choirs. It aims to explore the personal journeys of the participants, highlighting their challenges, triumphs, and the joy of performing on such a prestigious platform. The series will follow two distinct choirs: the Kaitāia Voices Choir from Aotearoa New Zealand and the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, USA.
Despite their geographical and cultural differences, these choirs are united by their passion for music and its life-changing power. The series will provide an intimate glimpse into their preparations, performances, and personal stories, allowing viewers to experience the profound emotional and cultural connections that music can forge.
The Power of Music on Television: Amplifying Impact
While the Choir Games are already renowned, this series will further amplify their impact through television. Produced by Leanne’s SPACIFIC FILMS, in collaboration with a Canadian company, the series will consist of four one-hour episodes. Leanne Pooley’s illustrious career spans over 25 years and includes numerous accolades such as the Best Documentary award at the Toronto International Film Festival. A recognized New Zealand Arts Laureate and an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for Services to Documentary Filmmaking, Leanne’s work has reached an international audience, making her an ideal figure to helm this project.
Why Contribute Now?
With Aotearoa New Zealand hosting the World Choir Games for the first time, the event presents a unique platform to showcase the nation’s cultural vibrancy and hospitality. The global nature of the Games ensures that the series will attract an international audience, enhancing its appeal for distribution and syndication across various media platforms. Contributions will also support a local production team known for delivering high-quality content. Tourism will also benefit from this unique promotion as the Choirs will be traveling around the country, and will be filmed undertaking interesting activities.
Beyond the financial and entertainment value, supporting this series will impact the community and the arts scene positively. It will highlight the cultural diversity and unity promoted by the World Choir Games, serving as a beacon of positivity. The series will also provide a platform for lesser-heard voices and stories, promoting inclusivity and understanding through the universal language of music.
Enhancing Well-being Through Altruism
Supporting the television series capturing the essence and spirit of the World Choir Games is a prime example of how altruism can enhance well-being. The act of giving not only benefits the recipients but significantly enhances the subjective well-being of the givers, often described as the "warm glow" of helping others. This phenomenon encompasses a range of positive psychological effects, from increased life satisfaction to a decrease in negative emotions, substantiated by robust scientific evidence. By supporting projects like the World Choir Games series, altruists can experience the joy of giving while contributing to a project with far-reaching positive implications, illustrating how doing good can indeed make us feel good and create a cycle of positivity that extends beyond the individual. If they wish, those contributing funding will be credited in the film.
Your Help Will Make a Difference
Contributing to the World Choir Games television series is a commitment to supporting the arts, promoting cultural diversity, and celebrating the human spirit through music. It offers a chance to be part of a meaningful project that has the potential to resonate with audiences globally, making a lasting impact on both participants and viewers. As demonstrated by the choirs from Kaitāia and New York City, music transcends boundaries, and now, so can your support.
